An invitation to Adelaide for ISPMB 2006On behalf of the Organising Committee, it gives me great pleasure to extend a warm invitation to you to participate in the 8th International Congress on Plant Molecular Biology to be held in Adelaide, South Australia. The theme of the conference highlights the desire of the committee to bring together experts from a variety of fields to further knowledge and research in plant molecular biology. In addition to keynote addresses and symposia given by invited overseas and Australian speakers, individuals are invited to submit abstracts for presentation as talks in concurrent sessions, or as posters. There will also be ample time for discussion at various workshops. Downtown Adelaide combines the tranquility of its historic buildings, wide tree-lined streets and quiet-flowing river, with the vitality of a cosmopolitan city offering a wide range of hotels, shops and eating places. South Australians enjoy a relaxed life style enhanced by its Mediterranean climate. The Adelaide Convention Centre is an outstanding state-of-the-art venue, located in the centre of the city within close walking distance of the conference hotels and apartments. It is also close to the City Centre, Museum, Art Gallery and Zoological and Botanical Gardens. The Committee is determined that this conference will be both scientifically rewarding and socially enjoyable. In addition to the Gala Conference Dinner, participants will have an opportunity to taste South Australian wines and nibbles at the cocktail parties to be held after sessions on the first two days of the conference. A range of exciting half and full day tours will also be offered on each day of the conference. For those who wish to extend their stay, Adelaide is the gateway to the Red Centre including Ayres Rock (Uluru), the Olgas and Alice Springs, the Barossa Valley and Flinders Ranges. There are also regular flights to Darwin for Kakadu National Park and Cairns for the Great Barrier Reef, as well as other major centres in Australia. Information on pre- and post-conference tours (which you should arrange yourselves) is available through our web site. The Organising Committee and I are certain that you will find the meeting both enriching and enjoyable, and look forward to seeing you in Adelaide in August 2006.
